VVID artisans handcrafting luxury leather sneakers in India - the origin and craftsmanship of VVID

The Origin & Craftsmanship Behind VVID

VVID is an Indian house building leather sneakers in small, numbered runs.

Our sneakers are hand-assembled in India, in runs of 40 pairs, 8 in each size from UK 6 to UK 10. We work in small batches because that is what a small team can finish to a consistent standard.

What we make, precisely

  • The Croco Edition uses croco-embossed cowhide at 1.1 to 1.3 mm, sourced from a tannery in Agra, with soft-finish cowhide panels and suede accents.
  • KOHL and DEODAR use suede uppers.
  • Construction is cemented, on an EVA and TPR two-component outsole, with a 5 mm memory foam insole.
  • The croco pattern is a hand-finished emboss applied to cowhide. It is not exotic crocodile skin, and no protected species are used in any VVID product.

What we do not claim

We are not going to tell you our leather is full-grain, because embossed leather is worked by definition. We do not hold environmental certification, we have not audited our supply chain, and our sneakers are not welted, so they are not straightforwardly resoleable.

We would rather name our materials and our methods exactly and let you decide whether they are worth the price. If you want the detail, our guide to leather grades explains how to judge any pair, including ours.
